Title: Process Operator

- Reporting to the Complex Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient performance of work needed to operate and maintain the processing units and related facilities.
Key activities include:
- Understand and comply with all refinery safety procedures and policies
- Be involved in starting up and shutting down units or portions of units, such as pumps, compressors, and processing systems
- Conduct quality control tests
- Continuously monitor and control operating variables such as temperature, pressure, and flow rate
- Review logs or computer data and computer generated schematics to ensure current process is running smoothly
- Review unit logs to determine what occurred on a previous shift
- Check for leaks, freezing, overheating, and/or excessive vibration in equipment
- Adjust equipment to meeting operating specifications
- Communicate with Control Center supervisor to remain informed of process conditions
- Operate and monitor operation of pumps and compressors
- Adjust process variables (temperature, pressure, etc.) to maintain product specifications
- Monitor process control units and respond to alarms
- Check gauges and other instruments to collect temperature, pressure, level, and/or other flow data
- Inspect and monitor equipment and/or process area to ensure correct operation
- Perform basic equipment maintenance (adding lube oil, water, tightening valve packing, changing filters, steam traps, clearing equipment, etc.)
- Inspect safety valves, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, breathing apparatus, and other safety equipment
- Prepare equipment for maintenance and perform gas tests and permitting to ensure safe condition of equipment that is being maintained
- Troubleshoot and solve problems to support safe and reliable operations

Qualifications
To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.
Additional qualifications include:
- High school graduate or GED required
- Completion of an associate’s degree or vocational training preferred
- Work experience in a manufacturing environment, petroleum refinery, chemical plant, military fuels management or other related process industry jobs preferred
- Application of basic mathematics, conversion factors, and tables/charts is required for each classification
- Mechanical aptitude is strongly desirable
- A basic understanding of chemistry and physics principles is desirable
- Qualify for a respirator SCBA clearance
- Ability and willingness to work shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime
- Strong commitment to safety
- Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather and work at heights
- Ability to satisfactorily complete pre-employment background, medical, and drug screenings
- Excellent team member characteristics
- Capable of comprehending and following complex procedures in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication skills (written, face-to-face, radio, and/or or telephone)
- Capable to transverse uneven terrain, scaffolding and earthen area
- Able to climb ladders, elevated walkways and climb onto rail cars
