Title:  Marine Scheduler (Barge & Pipeline)

The Role 

Reporting to the Marine Sales & Scheduling Manager, you will coordinate daily activities of the company’s pipeline, chartered barges and tugs with the refinery and contracted operator. Acts as a first point of contact with contracted barge operator for all issues related to barge schedules and cargo operations plans. Translate required information from internal supply, marketing groups and external shipping agents into pipeline or voyage orders for operators.

 

The Opportunity 

As a Marine Scheduler at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company you will have the opportunity to:

  • Perform and oversee the daily scheduling of the Company’s chartered tug and barge assets to fulfill requirements of internal and external barging customers.
  • Monitor availability of chartered tugs and barges and schedule accordingly with barge operator daily basis.
  • Work directly with State Harbors Division to book pier space for Par Pacific’s barge operations.
  • Ensure “Advance notice of transfer” is provided to USCG as required by regulations for all Company’s barge operations.
  • Perform and oversee planning and coordinating barge cargo operations or pipeline logistics with Company refinery, terminal, neighbor island terminals and external terminal operators.
  • Work with contracted barge operator to develop most effective cargo plan or pipeline schedule to fulfill customer’s requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of loading plans by utilizing computer barge loading program.
  • Maintain up to date working knowledge of chartered barge pipeline, pump and tank layouts.
  • Communicate daily with shipping agents to schedule bunker operations.
  • Schedule independent cargo surveyors.
  • Coordination and distribution of cargo samples.
  • Assist with monitoring of product inventories to plan pipeline and barge supply schedules.
  • Notify and/or update refinery and contracted tug and barge operator of pipeline delivery, loading, discharging, and voyage orders.
  • Notify and/or update customers of ETAs, delays and schedule changes.
  • Distribute tank cleaning and preparation instructions as needed to the contracted barge operator.
  • Coordinate reception of slops with refinery and contracted tank cleaning company.
  • Assurance representative of company’s quantity and quality for barge loading operations.
  • Attends and participates in operational and planning meeting with internal customers and barge operator.
  • Maintain weekly records of barge voyages and tug utilization. 
  • Assist with administration and performance reviews of tug and barge charter parties.
  • Participate in emergency drills and act as member of Company’s Oil Spill Response Group.
  • Assumes responsibilities designated by the Senior Scheduler in his/her absence.
  • Performs other Duties as assigned

  Education Requirements:  

  • High School Diploma is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in maritime, business, engineering or related field is desired

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Three to five years’ experience in the petroleum industry with duties directly related to transport of petroleum in bulk aboard barges or tankers
  • Tanker man PIC for dangerous liquid cargo transfers preferred
  • Previous experience in planning and scheduling petroleum barge movements desired
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, good mathematics skills, competent in use of computers
  • Valid driver’s license
