Responsible for the safe and profitable operation of a group of company operated retail sites. Maximizes profits and provides a profitable return on invested capital by following the Company’s procedures, philosophies and values on a daily basis. Supervises, develops and coaches Store Managers, who carry out the day-to-day operations of their respective retail sites. Ensures Store Managers are following company procedures and managing their staff within accepted guidelines and that the store is positioned to meet both current and future expectations.


To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Retail Area Manager opportunity, you will have:

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Accounting or other related field preferred.
  • Two years college required. (Two years of major retail store management may be substituted for college requirement.)
  • Minimum three years of multi-unit retail supervisory experience in business-related field preferred.
  • Minimum three years of successful retail store management required.
  • Every applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening. Passing on-going random drug screening is a condition of continued employment.
  • Must have valid driver’s license. Successfully completing pre-employment exams and assessments may also be required.
  • Strong communication skills including written, oral and formal presentations.
  • Supervisory and decision-making skills required.
  • Computer literate to run queries and other preformatted reports from our management information systems and other related software. Intermediate to expert level working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint software and other similar software applications.
  • Familiarity with profit and loss reporting, inventory reports and other business reports and financial statements and experience analyzing and interpreting such reports.




  1. Instills the Company’s safety and environmental objectives and ensures that stores comply with the Company’s policies and procedures.
  2. Responsible for the safe operation of retail sites by reinforcing Par’s safety philosophy during every visit to their retail sites.
  3. Creates and maintains a strong safety culture with every employee under their management assignment.
  4. Immediately addresses any safety issues and concerns that are present at the retail location.
  5. In the unlikely event that there is a Safety incident at a site under their management, the Retail Area Manager will ensure all reporting and case management procedures are adhered to. Takes lead or supports each safety investigation that occurs at their respective store.
  6. Conducts monthly night ride at each store and addresses identified variances or concerns.
  7. Represents Par at each store’s annual DOH inspection of fueling facilities including, sumps, UDC’s, dispensing equipment, VR records and Gold Book.



  1. Monitors and takes steps to ensure the day to day operations of the retail facilities under their management are fully compliant with Par Retail operations standards and guidelines.
  2. Monitors financial performance daily, weekly and monthly including but not limited to fuel volumes, merchandise sales, other operating income, non-fuel related margin adjustment items and DSOE (Direct Store Operating Expenses).
  3. Provides market intelligence including information on competitor market development activities, competitor street pricing, competitor marketing promotions, etc.
  4. Actively engages and manages the Store Management Team to quickly address and correct noted deficiencies and under performance.
  5. Ensures stores and customer service are maintained at levels which result in a positive public image.
  6. Creating and managing special store activities including store openings and closings, grand openings, store promotions, store resets, remodels, etc.
  7. Physically visits each store location a minimum of once per calendar week (unless geographic considerations prevent this from occurring and with GM approval) to asses store operations, review financial performance and provide management direction. Develops action plans to address store operational needs and maximize financial performance and follows up on these plans until there is resolution.
  8. Perform routine maintenance and repairs at stores including changing filters, replacing nozzles or hoses, changing out POS or Back Office equipment.
  9. Takes lead to ensure resolution is reached for store-level issues beyond control of store personnel including accounting, maintenance, environmental, merchandising, vendors, contractors and any other internal/external party.



  1. Understands and analyzes financial statements and other management information system reports for discrepancies, makes recommendations and changes within appropriate level of authority to maximize profitability while controlling expenses.
  2. Makes recommendations on capital investment projects in support of business improvement initiatives.
  3. Participates in developing financial budgets, labor hour budgets and other store performance metrics.
  4. Ensures merchandise, special items and gasoline sales are maximized by monitoring store conditions, in-stock efficiency, pricing and customer service. Ensures accurate and timely execution of monthly promotions.
  5. Assesses and communicates financial impact, security and risk issues related to internal theft and shop lifting and ensures all safety and loss prevention measures are in place and that these measures are consistently being applied and enforced and addresses variances in a timely manner.
  6. Is accountable for the financial performance of assigned stores and participates in a review of these stores’ financial performance in relation to the established budget in monthly P & L reviews.



  1. Ensures proper staffing level of all assigned stores so that customer service and other expectations are met or exceeded while ensuring labor hours are within approved limits.
  2. Ensures all retail employees of assigned stores receive proper training and are adequately prepared for employee certifications including NEO, SM/ASM certification and UST Operator Training.
  3. Establishes specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely performance goals and metrics for the Store Management Team in support of meeting identified business unit objectives.
  4. Assists Store Management Team in understanding store objectives and responsibilities and provides them with the necessary resources to achieve store goals.
  5. Develops a professional relationship with Store Managers and staff to maintain open communication and feedback and ensures all employees are treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  6. Will take appropriate action to correct unacceptable variances to expectations including as appropriate training, coaching and disciplinary action.
