The Opportunity 

  • Data Architect at a growth-oriented energy company 
  • Drive cloud-forward data architecture strategy by designing and scaling our enterprise analytics platform on Google Cloud Platform
  • Define standards for data modeling, integration, storage, and analytics enablement to drive data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
  • Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Data and Applications, you will be responsible for designing, evolving, and governing Par Pacific’s enterprise data architecture, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms across cloud and on-prem environments.

 

Key activities include:  

  • Define enterprise data models, integration patterns, and metadata management standards
  • Architect and oversee data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakehouse environments (BigQuery and SAP BW/4HANA preferred)
  • Partner with IT and business stakeholders to ensure data consistency, security, and performance across business units
  • Implement AI/ML pipelines in Vertex AI, integrating feature stores, model training, model deployment, and MLOps best practices to operationalize predictive insights
  • Guide data migration and cloud modernization strategies (e.g., from legacy BW to cloud-native analytics)
  • Utilize data mining techniques and develop data models to assist in the visualization and interpretation of data
  • Design reference architectures and governance standards for GCP data services, including IAM, data lineage, data quality, and cross-domain semantic modeling.
  • Partner with business leads to fulfill analytic and reporting requests as the domain data resource reference; you'll assist in creating and supporting a self-service style analytics platform among stakeholders.
  • Enhance our capability to analyze and "make sense" of large sets of data and translate findings in a visually appealing manner that tell a story and help Par make better data-driven decisions
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and continue maintaining awareness and applicability of new and emerging BI tools and processes
  • Develop standard or custom reports, queries, or dashboards that access and consolidate information from a variety of data sources and provide ongoing support for data users

Qualifications 

To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

 

Additional qualifications include:  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information systems, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 7 years’ hands on experience in a business environment with required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience specifically in data architecture and governance leadership required
  • Hands-on expertise with Google BigQuery, including data modeling, performance tuning, federated queries, and governance required
  • Proficiency with the GCP Cortex Framework for accelerating cloud analytics, SAP integration, and semantic model development required
  • A proven ability to use data, analytics, and business knowledge to solve business problems, including:
  • A strong understanding of best practices in BW/BI data modeling required
  • Advanced skills in Power BI or similar software preferred
  • Experience building and defining reports preferred
  • Advanced SQL and Excel Knowledge preferred
  • Strong understanding of ML-Ops and DataOps principles in a regulated or operationally complex environment required
  • Must have knowledge of SAP data structure required
  • Data engineering and architecture languages/tools: Python, Spark, dbt, ETL/ELT frameworks, API data integration, orchestration (Airflow, ADF) required
  • Experience with statistical tools and predictive analytics is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Cloud Analytics preferred

Our Refineries and Logistics Operations
