Title:  Environmental Manager

The Opportunity

  • Environmental Manager at a growth-oriented energy company
  • Establish and maintain an enterprise-wide Environmental program to ensure compliance with federal, multi-state, and local regulations.
  • Work within a small group to provide functional expertise critical to our commitment to operational excellence, environmental compliance, and safety across the different refining and logistics locations
  • Reporting to the Vice President Health, Safety, Security & Environmental (HSSE), you will provide exemplary customer service to our various locations within the Refining & Logistics organization as well as senior management. 


Key activities include:

  • Collaborate with other Environmental Managers and HSSE leaders to develop, implement, and maintain an effective environmental compliance strategy which establishes environmental project priorities and maximizes federal, state, and local regulatory compliance across Par’s Refining & Logistics locations.
  • Stay abreast of current and proposed environmental regulations and industry standards that may impact Refining & Logistics operations.
  • Collaborate with field manufacturing and HSSE teams to investigate environmental incidents and near-misses, perform root cause analysis and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Act as subject matter expert to provide advice and support to field locations on environmental matters, address urgent environmental concerns, oversee permitting processes, and provide input on regulatory and legislative initiatives.
  • Oversee the management and improvement of environmental systems and processes across the business.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on environmental standards and practices.
  • Monitor suspense dates for permitting and other environmental regulatory requirements across the Refining & Logistics organization.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on the status of environmental programs and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Supervise one environmental engineer providing guidance and support to effectively execute environmental deliverables

Qualifications
To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. Additional qualifications include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental area within the manufacturing sector. Extensive experience in refining or petrochemical industries and 5 years of management experience is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of permitting processes and environmental management systems.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with agency stakeholders and regulators.
  • Professional certification (Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or equivalent) preferred.
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing an environmental compliance program including EPA Fuels programs, NPDES (wastewater and stormwater) compliance, waste management, ICS, OSHA (Haz Comm and Hazwoper), clean air programs, GHG programs, oil spill response/prevention, TSCA, site remediation (MTCA), CERCLA, SARA, permitting, DOT (truck, rail, and pipeline), USTs, USCG, and other relevant regulatory areas.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed risk assessments and develop effective mitigation strategies to resolve urgent and emerging environmental issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and preparing clear and effective business communications.
  • Leadership abilities to guide and mentor team members, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Proficiency in process safety analysis tools and software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.


The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to lead the Environmental compliance capability across the organization through their influence.
  • Be willing to travel and spend time at the field locations in Wyoming, Montana, Washington, and Hawaii 30% of the time with peaks up to 50% in a month.
  • Be able and willing to roll up their sleeves and work “hands on” with the local teams to execute their mission
