The Requirements


To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Senior System Engineer opportunity, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as computer science or computer engineering; advanced degree preferred
  • Subject-matter expertise in VCP (VMware) required​
  • 5+ years of experience configuring and managing VMWare Virtualization Platforms
  • 8+ years of experience designing, configuring and managing Microsoft Server Platforms and services including Active Directory/ADFS, DNS, DHCP, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with architecture, implementing and managing Cloud Compute platforms such as AWS and Azure
  • Subject matter expertise on Microsoft Azure, Azure AD and/or AWS Cloud
  • 3+ years of experience with Azure and managing advanced cloud resources
  • Linux OS experience is mandatory
  • Knowledge and experience with cloud-based architectures and delivery models including:
    • Strong knowledge of Exchange 2016 and Office365
    • Skype/OneDrive for Business and Teams
    • Storage/Cloud Storage
  • Strong experience in vendor/3rd party services management including project management through to on-time delivery of desired results
  • Experience with most of all of the following:
    • SharePoint. IIS, SQL scripting
    • PowerShell (advanced)
    • Backup/Patching automation (Commvault)
    • Imaging workstations and servers
    • Certificate Services/PKI
    • Server and client operating systems (2003, 2008, 2012, 2016)
    • Client/Server security tasks
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Security+ preferred
  • Cloud preferred
  • Citrix preferred
  • Knowledge of Cisco, HP, Dell hardware a plus
  • Oil and Gas industry experience a plus

Role Overview
Reporting to the Senior Network Architect, as Senior Systems Engineer, you will serve as subject-matter-expert responsible for the optimization, administration, and protection of all back-end computing systems across multiple geographic locations and data centers. This includes, but is not limited to, infrastructure systems, server, backup, VMware, Citrix, cloud-based computing environments, as well as any connected endpoints.​ You will spend the majority of your time providing broad server/storage support through VMware. 

Role Details

You'll join a talented team based in our Houston, corporate location, including your supervisor, another architect, engineers and desktop support. Daily, you will work on projects and support existing IT systems. You'll bring new ideas to the table and work closely with the team, external departments, and providers to design, implement, and ensure quality delivery of services. You'll take ownership of your key areas of responsibility, including implementing and optimizing the Par Pacific’s infrastructure systems, developing processes and procedures, developing dashboards and reporting mechanisms, and managing the availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, and security of the technology environment. As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Design solutions on VMware vCenter/ESXi based on business requirements and VMware best practices
  • Provide expert-level knowledge of VMware, Exchange, backup and storage (Nimble, EMC, Hitachi)
  • Provide expert-level knowledge of Citrix 6.X/7.X, Windows 2003/2008/2012/2016 and Active Directory administration
  • Design, build, and maintain complex, multi-farm Citrix environments
    • Core technologies used will include XenApp, XenDesktop, Citrix Provisioning Services, Citrix Access Gateways and Citrix Netscalers​
  • Provide day-to-day administration of mission-critical services deployed using the solutions listed above
  • Be responsible for general cloud PaaS/IaaS integrations spanning multiple projects and timelines
  • Migrate privately hosted and on-premises services to Microsoft Azure or VMWare ESXi
  • Provision, install, test, support, and maintain hardware and software for server systems
  • Automate and perform infrastructure tasks using industry-standard products
  • Work independently with minimum supervision; assist and adjust priorities as needed and meet deadlines
