The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Junior Cybersecurity Analyst opportunity, you will also have:

  • Minimum of 2 years' IT or network security experience required (i.e. patching, security projects within and infrastructure team, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree with an applicable focus preferred or the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or industry certifications
  • Foundational certification(s) (e.g. CCENT, ICND1, Security +, A+, CEH) preferred
  • IT experience including Microsoft Office products, Linux and Cisco
  • Ability to understand and manage the implications and impacts of technical issues and processes in the context of information security and risk management.

The Role

Role Overview
Reporting directly to the IT Manager and indirectly to a Cybersecurity Engineer, as Junior Cybersecurity Analyst, you will be responsible for assisting Par Pacific’s information security initiative and recommending security measures to safeguard its valuable information assets. Additionally, you will act as a liaison and provide first level support to Par Pacific’s Security Program, and assist in providing first level support to all information security-related incidents.

Role Details
You'll be based in our Houston, corporate location and join a talented IT team of approximately 40, supporting 1600 users. You will join the growing security branch where you'll take daily direction from a cybersecurity engineer. We anticipate that you will split your time between day-to-day operations and maintenance activities (approximately 60%) and project work (40%). You'll provide timely responses to inquiries, support forensic investigations and provide analysis, help manage the security tools and more. 

Specifically, you will:

  • Recommend revisions or improvements to enhance efficiencies
  • Review internal controls
  • Assist with delivering adequate and timely responses from business units and management
  • Monitor security access
  • Assist with Incident response investigations
  • Assist with disaster recovery and business continuity efforts
  • Stay up to date on security and trends to better protect the business
  • Research solutions to aid in determining effective protections of organization
  • Assist in the enforcement of security policies throughout the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned
