The Role
Reporting within the commercial Supply & Trading organization, you will assume 24/7 responsibility for Par’s rail, pipeline, and truck activities. You will actively schedule rail while you manage several rail and pipeline schedulers. As part of your specific responsibilities, you will:
- Manage crude oil and product schedulers for both crude and products as they:
- Create, execute, and optimize monthly logistics plans.
- Ensure timely supply and deliveries.
- Interface extensively with internal and external counterparties.
- Build and maintain commercial relationships with Class 1 railroads, short lines, railcar manufacturers and lessors, railcar repair companies, pipelines, and trucking companies.
- Negotiate transportation agreements for rail, pipeline, and truck movements.
- Create and execute short and long term railcar fleet strategy.
- Optimize railcar fleet through the management of demurrage, freight rates, car utilization, repair costs, commodity inventory, etc.
- Remain current and in compliance with all applicable railroad and pipeline tariffs, rules, and regulations; including DOT and rail regulations and interaction with the FRA and STB.
- Cross train, support, and backup team members as necessary for continuity.
- Assist internal departments in working with customs brokers and/or agents for trans-border commerce.
- Use GeoMetrix / Bourque Logistics software and other systems to optimize cars, manage costs, create bill of ladings, track and handle bad orders, etc.
- Maintain, develop, and improve internal and external reporting requirements such as rail fleet and pipeline utilization, movements, importation notification, demurrage, etc.
- Interface with other departments to assist in operations planning, inventory management, invoicing, bill payment, and other financial decisions.
- Participate in daily/weekly operations planning meetings.
- Assume accountability over all invoices associated with your logistics movements.
- Represent Par Pacific Holdings at industry conferences.
The Requirements
To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for this opportunity, you will have/be:
- Minimum of five years of experience with commodity logistics, scheduling, or operations in rail and pipeline.
- Experience with and working knowledge of:
- Freight billing, tracking, and dispute resolution.
- Railcar fleet optimization (spares, delays, bad orders, etc.).
- Experience with crude and product pipelines in Alberta, Canada, and PADDs II, IV, and V.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and optimizing manifest and unit train railcar fleets.
- Experience with GeoMetrix and/or Bourque Logistics software.
- Managed multiple employees
- The ability to analyze large sets of data in order to develop and support transportation processes and the company’s strategic plan.
- The ability to identify and resolve the typical issues that arise to keep the fleet moving.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel as it is a primary tool used daily in this role. An ability to use, dissect, and troubleshoot Excel formulas is a must.
- A keen attention to detail and critical reasoning is a must.
- Strong oral, written, and non-verbal communication skills.
- Timely internal and external communication is a must.
- A self-starter approach with ability to work with little or no supervision in an independent and collaborative team environment.
- Comfortable working in an open trade floor or bullpen type of environment.
- Live in Houston with regular travel to the other locations.
