- Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tests which are predominantly physical in nature in connection with quality control of crude oils, process streams, and finished and unfinished products.
Key activities include:
- Perform tests in connection with the quality control of crude oils, process streams, finished and unfinished products. Follows standard test procedures to determine physical and chemical properties and ensure products meet quality control standards. Determines characteristics such as API gravity, flash points, freeze points, vapor pressure and distillation using testing and laboratory equipment.
- Responsible for routine inspection, basic maintenance, and calibration of testing equipment to ensure optimum operating conditions.
- Prepares solvents, solutions and glassware needed for testing.
- Maintains accurate records of test results and reports test results promptly to the department concerned. Accurately enters results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Maintains records of retained samples and discards samples at the end of the retention period.
- Refills reagent bottles to ensure adequate supply for testing needs.
- Replaces laboratory gas cylinders; safely moves cylinders, secures them properly and connects them to the manifold according to established standard operating procedure (SOP).
- Cleans sample bottles, and laboratory glassware.
- Empties/discards sample cans.
- Works with lab chemists to keep lab supplies and consumables stocked. Monitoring and maintaining an inventory of consumables and requesting (internally) additional supplies as necessary.
- Responsible for compliance with all refinery environmental, health and safety standards.
- Operates a refinery utility vehicle (e.g. Kawasaki Mule) to transport samples and supplies safely within the refinery.

Qualifications
To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. Additional qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED required
College degree in Chemistry or related sciences preferred - A minimum of two years of experience in a laboratory is preferred.
- Must have ability to read and interpret data; prepare written communications and reports.
- Must possess good computer skills
- Be safety and environmentally sensitive, be able to put out fires, and respond to emergency situations.
- Must have physical ability to utilize laboratory, office communications and computer equipment.
- Must maintain active Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Hiring Range:
The hiring range for this position is $44.20 to $49.51 per hour. The candidate selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
