Title:  Senior Project Engineer

The Role 

Reporting to the Vice President of Hawaii Logistics you will be responsible for tracking and coordinating major maintenance and capital projects at our pipeline and terminal facilities. The Senior Project Engineer works closely with senior leadership to ensure critical projects move forward on schedule and in a safe and cost-effective manner. The Senior Project Engineer also plays a strategic role by identifying profit improvement and other business opportunities across our statewide distribution system

As part of your specific responsibilities, in the following areas, you will: 

  • Develop project ideas to improve the profitability, competitive position or asset integrity of Par Hawaii’s pipeline and terminal assets across the islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Kauai and Molokai
  • Serve as the central coordinator for a portfolio of major maintenance and capital projects that ranges from $8-12 million annually. The Senior Project Engineer works closely with the Vice President in charge of Logistics to drive the project portfolio by interfacing with project managers and tracking and reporting on project status
  • Develop project scope of work, cost estimates, economic feasibility and decision support packages for leadership
  • Serve as the project manager for a subset of Par Hawaii’s logistics projects; this includes working with internal and external engineering resources to design projects, shepherd projects through permitting, bidding out projects and overseeing project execution
  • Lead monthly project reviews for the logistics group leadership team
  • Work closely with procurement and accounting to ensure sound financial management during project execution
  • Proactively search for optimization opportunities and implementation of best practices across the logistics system, and being ready to cross-train in other positions in the logistics group
  • Serve as utility player and provide position relief/vacation support for key roles within the logistics organization as directed


The Requirements 

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Senior Project Engineer opportunity, you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business is required
  • 5 years relevant experience in the petroleum industry; relevant experience may include project management, engineering, petroleum terminal management and other like positions
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Projects, Autocad, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated math skills
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable liquids
  • Knowledge and experience in pipeline American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.4 and B31.3
  • Knowledge and experience in Pipeline American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104
  • Knowledge and experience in API 650 and API 653
  • Knowledge of equipment used in liquid product measurement and control
  • Knowledge of API measurement standards
  • General knowledge of Federal and State safety and compliance rules and regulations regarding terminal and pipeline operations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet company insurability requirements
  • Required to successfully complete a background check and drug screening prior to being hired
  • In order to be successful in this position, one must possess strong mechanical and analytical skills
