Title: Environmental Technician
The Opportunity
- Environmental Technician at a growth-oriented energy company
- Reporting to the Environmental Site Manager, the Environmental Technician, is an entry level role providing critical assistance to the refinery through compliance monitoring support for the refinery’s air, water, and solid waste programs
- This position requires an individual with a strong commitment to excellence, the ability to work on multiple projects, and strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with others to accomplish assigned tasks
- The Environmental Technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the refinery’s environmental systems to demonstrate compliance with environmental regulations. A summary of each system and monitoring requirements is shown below
Key activities include:
- Air Quality Management: The refinery operates various types of analyzers to monitor fuel gas properties and air emissions for certain stacks. The Environmental Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring of these analyzers, conducting troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, and required quality assurance testing and documentation. Must be able and willing to obtain vendor assistance on issues if they arise. Maintenance of these systems requires the technician to ascend platforms to access sampling systems at elevated heights. The Environmental Technician must have a basic understanding of electronics and computer skills to accomplish this task. The Environmental Technician is also required to obtain and maintain certification in Method 21 visible emission monitoring.
- Water Quality Management: The Environmental Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring of the refinery’s wastewater system, reporting system data to the Environmental Department, conducting necessary maintenance on system components and the collection and shipping of required samples. The wastewater system uses sulfuric acid and caustic to maintain system properties, and the Environmental Technician is required to maintain these systems. The Environmental Technician is also responsible for the monitoring of the refinery’s groundwater monitoring and recovery systems. The technician is required to conduct routine gauging of wells, reporting system data to the Environmental Department, conducting necessary maintenance on system components including the cleaning of flow meters and replacement of electrical groundwater pumps, and collecting required samples.
- Solid Waste Management: The Environmental Technician supports the refinery’s solids and hazardous waste programs by performing inspections and monitoring the various disposal sites for compliance and assisting in spill response and remediation activities, including the collection of any required samples.
- Project Support: The Environmental Technician provides project support as directed by the Environmental Site Manager.

Qualifications
To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.
Additional qualifications include:
- Must be 18 years old or older and a High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an environmental field preferred
- Valid Driver’s license required
- Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen required prior to employment
We are looking for a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive attitude. Candidates should have a natural thirst for knowledge and curiosity to drive personal and professional development. In addition, in order to be a successful Environmental Technician, you will:
- Work selected “on call” weekends as directed by the Environmental Site Manager. The technician may also be required to work 12-hr shifts during certain occasions, such as providing support during unit/refinery turnarounds. Additionally, callouts may be required to assist with problems in the plant. The normal job hours for this position are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday or possibly 4 10-hour days with rotating weeks.
- Be required to obtain and maintain a 40-hour HAZMAT technician certification and be available to participate in spill response activities as needed.
- Have a basic understanding of electricity and be able to troubleshoot and replace groundwater pumps and other electrical equipment as needed.
- Requires frequent lifting and climbing. Except for the analyzers which are located in climate-controlled buildings, the systems monitored and maintained by the Environmental Technician are located outdoors and must be maintained year-round.
